• Try to end each day with a clean, empty kitchen sink. Run the dishwasher before you go to bed and unload it first thing in the morning.

• Don't mix ammonia and bleach because it will create toxic fumes.

• Try to wipe down cooking appliances each time you use them, it will save a build up of burnt on food.


• Once every 7-10 days, remove all the food from your refrigerator, wipe down the inside with warm soapy water, before you put the food back, check the sell buy dates.

• An open box of baking soda in the back of the fridge will prevent smells.


• Keep you dishwasher clean by running it empty every so often, try adding half a cup of vinegar or some baking soda to the dishwasher before running it.

• Put pots of herbs (basil and mint) on the windowsill to deter flies.

• Line your grill with foil, change it every time you grill food, as fat can catch fire.

• Wipe
chopping boards over with a lemon or salt before washing.

• Badly burnt saucepans should be soaked for a few hours with a solution of biological washing powder, then bring to the boil, the process may need to be repeated.

• Remove limescale from a kettle by covering the element with a solution of vinegar and water, (50/50) bring to the boil and leave to soak overnight. Rinse thoroughly.

To clean a dirty microwave oven:
Put a cup of water with a squeeze of lemon juice in it, into the microwave and heat on full power for 5-7 mins. Allow to stand for a further 5 mins, remove the cup and wipe the inside of the microwave clean. Be careful not to remove cup whilst still boiling.

Put a little coca-cola into a burnt saucepan and heat to boiling, rinse and repeat to clean a burnt pan.

To clean glass decanters or other long necked vessels. Add a teaspoon of rice grains to a little hot water and washing up liquid. Shake vigorously for 1 min, empty and rinse in hot water.
