Laundry & Ironing Advice
| | | | | | | | Washing: • Separate your washing into piles. Close zips, check pockets for tissues, pens etc. • Always check garment washing instruction labels for the correct washing temperature. • To save on electricity when weather permits, dry your washing outside. • To remove soap residue from flannels soak them in a solution of vinegar and water before washing. • To keep your washing machine clean occasionally put a cupful of vinegar or soda crystals into the soap powder drawer and run your machine empty • When hand washing it is sometimes hard to remove all the soap suds when rinsing the clothes, add a tablespoon of vinegar to the final rinsing water, this will remove the soap residue.
Ironing: • Iron dark coloured garments inside out. • Don't forget that the lining in garments needs a lower temperature. • When pressing garments hang them to air before putting them away. • If you don't have a sleeve board, insert a rolled-up towel into the cuff end of sleeves so they can be pressed without leaving creases. You can make your own sleeve board from a cardboard tube covered with soft fabric.
Tumble Drier sheets: Alternative uses: • Used or new drier sheets are great on any surface where you want to eliminate static. • Place used or new sheets in your drawers, or tie one over the hanging pole in your wardrobe. • Place one in the bottom of your laundry basket to keep washing smelling sweet. • Place one in your trainers or shoes to make them smell better! • Put inside suitcases, before storing, to keep any musky smells away.
